Title: Go Blue
Author: Namaste
Summary: Pure fluff. I meant to write a dialogue only fic with Wilson celebrating and House commiserating Saturday’s football game at his alma mater, but then Cuddy wanted to join in the conversation, so I had to add a little non-dialogue action too. Ummm. Not that kind of action. Sorry.
About 450 words.

“Appalachian State?”

House wrote something in a file. He didn’t even bother looking up. “I don’t want to hear about it.”

“Come on, Appalachian State?” Wilson stepped further into House’s office. He glanced at both of the people in the room.

“I still don’t want to hear about it.”

“Neither do I,” Cuddy said, and took the file from House’s desk. She placed another open one on his desk and pointed to a spot on one of the pages. “Sign here.”

“Come on,” Wilson said, “your team, ranked fifth in the nation gets beaten by Appalachian State and you don’t want to talk about it?”

“It’s not my team anymore, didn’t I tell you?”

“Beaten by a team not only from the boonies, but literally, from Boone.”

“Johns Hopkins won, why don’t we talk about that instead?”

“Because this is a lot more fun.”

“He’s got a strange idea of fun,” Cuddy said. She placed another file in front of him.

“He’s an oncologist and he spends all his free time with me. You’re surprised his idea of fun is warped?”

“Thirty-four to thirty-two.”

“Talk to Cuddy, she’s the one with the team spirit.”

“Cuddy cares about football?”

“Football players, mostly. All those tight pants.” House leaned forward. “She dated the entire offensive line her junior year, you know.”

Wilson turned to Cuddy, eyebrows raised.

Cuddy rolled her eyes. “One player,” she said. “One date.”

“The kicker,” House said. “He was Romanian. He had feet like ...” He held his hands wide apart.

“Greek,” Cuddy said, and pushed House’s hands further apart.

Wilson saw a flash of a smile on House’s face before Cuddy handed him another file.

“So,” he said, “Appalachian State.” He held out his hand.

House looked up from the papers.

“Pay up,” Wilson said.

“You bet on Appalachian State?” Cuddy asked.

Wilson shook his head. “Standing bet. House owes me fifty bucks every time Michigan loses to an unranked team.”

Cuddy turned to House. “No wonder why you’re always broke,” she said. “Even I’m not that stupid.”

“I’ll get it back in lunch money.” House leaned to his left side and took his wallet out of his back pocket. He took out two twenties and a ten. He held it out, but didn’t let go when Wilson grabbed the bills. “Double or nothing for the Oregon game.”

Cuddy shook her head and gathered the files off of House’s desk. “I hired an idiot,” she said.

Wilson stared into House’s eyes, then smiled. “You’re on.”

*lol*

This is even funny for me, who has no clue about American sports.

“Greek,” Cuddy said, and pushed House’s hands further apart.

Go Cuddy! :D

This was a good start of my day!

Thanks. I keep trying to come up with a non-(American)football comparison, but the best I can come up with is when an unranked tennis player wins the French Open, or Manchester United gets beaten by the local school team.

How about when Armstrong won the Tour de France for the first time? ;)

Close, but since he already had a world championship title at that point and had previously won three stages at the tour -- and the field itself had been decimated by the last doping scandal -- it's not quite the same. (Why yes, I am a cycling freak, why do you ask?)

True, but still he wasn't well known for anyone but avid cycling fans - I follow the Tour, but that's it, and it took me by surprise...

*tries to come up with other comparisons*
