Title: Go Blue
Author: Namaste
Summary: Pure fluff. I meant to write a dialogue only fic with Wilson celebrating and House commiserating Saturday’s football game at his alma mater, but then Cuddy wanted to join in the conversation, so I had to add a little non-dialogue action too. Ummm. Not that kind of action. Sorry.
About 450 words.

“Appalachian State?”

House wrote something in a file. He didn’t even bother looking up. “I don’t want to hear about it.”

“Come on, Appalachian State?” Wilson stepped further into House’s office. He glanced at both of the people in the room.

“I still don’t want to hear about it.”

“Neither do I,” Cuddy said, and took the file from House’s desk. She placed another open one on his desk and pointed to a spot on one of the pages. “Sign here.”

“Come on,” Wilson said, “your team, ranked fifth in the nation gets beaten by Appalachian State and you don’t want to talk about it?”

“It’s not my team anymore, didn’t I tell you?”

“Beaten by a team not only from the boonies, but literally, from Boone.”

“Johns Hopkins won, why don’t we talk about that instead?”

“Because this is a lot more fun.”

“He’s got a strange idea of fun,” Cuddy said. She placed another file in front of him.

“He’s an oncologist and he spends all his free time with me. You’re surprised his idea of fun is warped?”

“Thirty-four to thirty-two.”

“Talk to Cuddy, she’s the one with the team spirit.”

“Cuddy cares about football?”

“Football players, mostly. All those tight pants.” House leaned forward. “She dated the entire offensive line her junior year, you know.”

Wilson turned to Cuddy, eyebrows raised.

Cuddy rolled her eyes. “One player,” she said. “One date.”

“The kicker,” House said. “He was Romanian. He had feet like ...” He held his hands wide apart.

“Greek,” Cuddy said, and pushed House’s hands further apart.

Wilson saw a flash of a smile on House’s face before Cuddy handed him another file.

“So,” he said, “Appalachian State.” He held out his hand.

House looked up from the papers.

“Pay up,” Wilson said.

“You bet on Appalachian State?” Cuddy asked.

Wilson shook his head. “Standing bet. House owes me fifty bucks every time Michigan loses to an unranked team.”

Cuddy turned to House. “No wonder why you’re always broke,” she said. “Even I’m not that stupid.”

“I’ll get it back in lunch money.” House leaned to his left side and took his wallet out of his back pocket. He took out two twenties and a ten. He held it out, but didn’t let go when Wilson grabbed the bills. “Double or nothing for the Oregon game.”

Cuddy shook her head and gathered the files off of House’s desk. “I hired an idiot,” she said.

Wilson stared into House’s eyes, then smiled. “You’re on.”

Hee! I spent the weekend with an Appalachian State alum, so I had the opposite of this experience on Saturday... Very cute, and very witty.

Little nit in this sentence: He held it out, but held didn’t let go

I fixed it, thanks. Since everyone in town was laughing at Appalachian State around Ann Arbor last weekend, people were in shock. One of the headlines actually read: "What just happened?"

I don't know anything about football, but this was still seriously cute. I especially liked Cuddy's “Greek,” Cuddy said, and pushed House’s hands further apart.

Oh Wilson, when you're done rubbing salt into that wound, why not just dance on his grandmother's grave? *g* Very cute, good catch on the Michigan connection; I didn't think of that.

Thanks. I needed to write something light after the last fic.

Thanks. I live in Ann Arbor, so ever since the reveal that House and Cuddy went to Michigan, I keep thinking about potential places for fic purposes -- like I'm certain that at least House had hippie hash at the Elwood Diner.

This is too funny (says the long-suffering Rutgers alumnus, who finally has something to cheer for).

The first time I read the Michigan score I thought I'd made an error. Then (like pretty much everyone who hasn't gone to Michigan) I wanted to send Appalachian State flowers. And I'm not even much of a football fan.

Fun. It was even better with Cuddy in there, too; glad you included her.

I was a little surprised Johns Hopkins even has a football team. Then I Googled. Oh. ; )

So awesome, as was the football game in question. Too bad it wasn't nationally televised.

This town is crazy for some UM football, I tell you, then frustrated beyond belief after the bowl games every year. It's like they all wake up with a killer hangover, swear off believing in football ever again, but yet there they are, 100,000 strong in the stadium come fall.

I had to google Johns Hopkins football too. Heh. And I tried to follow some of your hints from the Q&A for dialogue only, but it was worth it to bring in Cuddy.

That brings up a whole other sore subject in town, namely the "Big 10 Network" that local cable providers aren't showing, so people couldn't even watch the game at home. Thanks.

Boonies?!?!?! Hey, someone needs to tell Wilson that Boone is a damn cool little hippie town. With one of the best veggie restaurants anywhere. And Cheap Joe's Art Supplies.

Oh yeah, and a great football team. :-)

But if you'd done it dialogue only (which you can do with three people - I cheat and use bold and italics to identify two of the speakers), you would've missed the great "foot size" joke. And that was awesome.

Hey, Wilson went to McGill, Penn and Columbia. He hasn't been exposed to great football before. Give him time. *g*

I hate to say it but I was ecstatic when I heard Michigan lost. Could have something to do with being Wisconsin fans.
:)
Oh, and just one little comment. Thank you for spelling Johns Hopkins correctly. I see so many people call is John Hopkins.
Oh, and I enjoyed the little fic too! I can see House and Wilson having some kind of ongoing bet with their alma maters.

Penn State or UPenn? I completely didn't know about this. (Me, unclear on canon? That's unpossible!)

I giggled at Cuddy's big-footed boyfriend. Thanks for the floof.

How great! I love how they bet on this and the interactions between the three.

I live in Ohio State Buckeye country, and trust me, that loss made bigger news here than the Buckeye victory. People here are treating Appalachian State like they won the super bowl or something.

Of course I'm originally from Michigan, but I always routed for the Spartans. So I'm loving this on the other side. :)

This was great. I'm smiling my dorky little face off. :)

I initially read "Blue" and thought "Penn State?" It's what I get for being a PA native.

“The kicker,” House said. “He was Romanian. He had feet like ...” He held his hands wide apart.

“Greek,” Cuddy said, and pushed House’s hands further apart.

That just cracked me up, by the way.

Um, Cuddy knew the size of the guy's feet after one date? Tsk, tsk.

This was great fluff.

One sentence needs fixing -- it ended up with an extra word during editing:
“He’s got a strange idea of fun,” Cuddy said. She took placed another file in front of him.

Oh I love this. I bet with my father every year on the bowl games, and I always take Michigan and it feels like I always lose (I think it's actually 50/50).

Perfect voices, as always. That Cuddy likes to butt in a lot.
