So it rained when I was in the desert territory near Flagstaff -- not much, but still ...
We had a massive dust storm when I was in Phoenix for my conference. (I looked outside, said: "It's dark outside. Is it raining?" Stepped out to get dust in my eyes and mouth.)
Now we get loaded on the airplane in Phoenix to head to Detroit, only to get an announcement about a fuel leak and how they need to put a new seal on the tank, so it'll be a 90-minute delay (at least) and everybody should go back into the terminal. (It's already been 90 minutes.)
I'm beginning to think that the bracelet I bought from a Navajo woman with cedar seeds that are supposed to "ward off evil spirits" isn't working. Though I suppose I could argue that it's warding off evil spirits in that the leak wasn't discovered in the air, and we didn't have to spend the entire time seated on the plane. And for that matter, there's actual free WiFi here at the terminal. But still ...
ETA: And just as the door opened, and we all bounced up to reboard (about two hours late) they closed the door again and announced they'd found another leak, and they didn't know what would happen next.
Son of ETA: The estimated departure time is now noon -- three hours late.
Grandson of ETA: The new estimate is 1:30 p.m.
Distant cousin of ETA: They're now saying 2 p.m. to take off ... just after the regularly scheduled 1:30 p.m. flight leaves. *shakes head* But in the meantime, at least I've had the opportunity to edit and update my photos, including a side trip to Sedona
Daughters of the American ETA: Home! We left at 3 p.m., so ... two hours after we were due to land in Detroit. Could have been worse, though. A couple on the shuttle bus to the parking lot with me were on their way home from a wedding Friday ... in Houston. By the time they knew for certain that Hurricane Ike was paying Houston a visit, they couldn't make another flight arrangement.
