Every once in a while, I think I haven't written much. Then every year I sit back and add up the rough word count.

For 2008, I wrote right around 90,000 words, from "Every Point Counts," which was a sports fic written "live" during the Michigan-Florida bowl game on Jan. 1 to the eighteenth chapter of "Blythe's Story," which is shaping up to be the Big Bang fic that I wasn't going to write this year (I hit the 20,000 word mark on that with the last chapter).

Of course, that's shy of 2007, when I somehow fit in 127,000 words. Go figure.

Now I'll have to finish updating my fic index list. And write some more.

I've never calculated how many words I've written in a year, mostly because I write for so many different fandoms and have such fondness for crossovers. In order to properly tabulate it, I'd probably need MS Excel, but really I shouldn't analyze it, myself, because that might throw my already nitpicky muse into another bout of silent treatment.

Wouldn't want that. *shakes head*

No spread sheet needed. I just added up the word count from ff.net for this year's story. It's not precise -- and I don't post every fic there -- but it gives me a rough number.

That's a handy tool, I suppose. I find myself ducking into the Pit of Voles for updates and then getting back out because if I'm not careful, I'll come across absolute dreck and wonder how on earth someone thought it was fit to post.

I'd rather stay in an optimistic mood and that's difficult when I've been a member of that site for so long and know how wonderful it used to be over there.
