This is just me being an anal-retentive word-junkie, but "kegler" is German for "bowler".
(Which leaves the question of how the word entered English, although I would think it more likely that there's some hard-core German-descended bowling contingent in America than that some sportscaster actually resorted to foreign terms... Could be wrong, tho =)
